The Covid-19 pandemic has forced our world to go through major changes. As an artist I feel like I can’t 'turn the page' of this chapter in our history without documenting my experience of it in music. This album is the result of that.”
Eran Har Even is an Edison nominated Israeli guitarist, composer and music educator residing in Amsterdam. On his new 20/21 album Eran blends the guitar in a fresh-sounding formation featuring his long time collaborators Itai Weissman on EWI, Jeroen Batterink on drums and a special guest appearance by vocalist Claire Parsons. Through delicate ear-crafted-compositions Eran expresses his experience of the post-Covid-syndromes.
About the music
Rise
Rise was written after the 16th of March 2020 when the WHO announced a global warning about the upcoming pandemic. This composition reflects on the rising feeling of an uncertain future.. “Calm before the storm”
Begin To Give In (E.Har Even & S.Huijbregts)
Inspired by my sister’s ongoing battle with Endometriosis; a chronic health condition which is hard to diagnose and even harder to treat. During 2020 - 2021 I couldn’t go visit my family and therefore had to support them from afar. This composition was developed into its eventual form together with my old friend vocalist Sanne Huijbregts.
Blues For Frank
Dedicated to Frank van Berkel.
Tech No Logic
A spontaneous improvised piece co-created by Jeroen, Claire and myself.
Helicopter
Dedicated to the countless hours I spent in my practice space called “Helicopter” in Amsterdam, where the concepts for this album came about during the lockdown periods.
El Toro (W.Shorter)
During the Covid period I felt the urge to re-visit the music and teachings of living legend Wayne Shorter which resulted in a tribute project I named ‘Shorter Days’.
This song was originally played by the Jazz Messengers on "The Freedom Rider" 1961.
Negative
Started as an online-learning rhythmic exercise for my solfège students at the Conservatorium of Amsterdam. “Negative rhythm” outlines the situation where the unheard reveals and becomes an active part of the sequence.
Brain Fog
*Featuring Claire Parsons on vocals.
A post reaction to the Covid era where one feels a lack of motivation, energy and positivity.
At The End
Was composed after learning that my pianist friend Angelo DiLoretto took his own life.
It usually takes me weeks or months to complete a new musical piece, although this song just came out instantly on the piano.
